How are private sector organisations affecting food environments and influencing obesity and non-communicable diseases preventions efforts?
This module aims to monitor the policies, commitments and actions of the largest food companies in Canada using the Business Impact Assessment – Obesity and population-level nutrition tool (BIA-Obesity).
BIA-Obesity is a tool and process developed by the global INFORMAS to assess company policies and commitments across six key domains: corporate population nutrition strategy; product formulation; nutrition labelling; promotion to children and adolescents; product accessibility (pricing and affordability); and relationships with external groups. Each domain includes a number of indicators, with assessment based on the transparency, comprehensiveness and specificity of each company’s policies and commitments. A more detailed description of the tool is available here.
