INFORMAS Framework

The INFORMAS framework provides a set of standardized methods for data collection and analysis that can be used to define and benchmark policies and food environments. It includes 12 modules that represent comprehensive aspects of the food environment: two 'process' modules, that monitor the policies and actions of the public and private sectors, seven 'impact' modules that monitor the key characteristics of food environments and three ‘outcome’ modules that monitor dietary quality, risk factors and non-communicable diseases morbidity and mortality. A health equity lens is applied to the INFORMAS framework to examine how the food environment improve or exacerbates diet and health inequities.
