About INFORMAS Canada

What is INFORMAS Canada?

INFORMAS (International Network for Food and Obesity / Non-communicable Diseases (NCDs) Research, Monitoring and Action Support) Canada is a network of food environment researchers from across Canada conducting research to examine the Canadian food environment, and searching for innovative ways to help create healthy, supportive environments that enable all Canadians to make their best food choices.

The food environment is the collective physical, economic, policy and sociocultural surroundings, opportunities and conditions that influence people’s food and beverage choices and nutritional status.

What is INFORMAS Canada looking to achieve?

INFORMAS Canada aims

  • to benchmark the status of the food environment in Canada and to identify areas for improvement;
  • to learn more about how food environment in Canada may contribute to improving or exacerbating existing dietary and health inequities;
  • to effectively disseminate key findings to relevant stakeholders (e.g. policymakers, policy analysts in governements, researchers), inform policy discussions and the current push towards effective policy to improve the diet and, therefore, the health of Canadians.

Who financially support the work of INFORMAS Canada?

The projects conducted by INFORMAS Canada are funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR).
